This month, we celebrate all things food-related the Female way (see our list of the top 7 stylish local Instagram food accounts to follow and the team’s favourite cafes and restaurants). Now, we’ve hunted down 16 beauty products with the most tantalising edible ingredients, from exquisite black truffles sourced from France to organic tangerines on Korea’s Jeju island.
Ingredient: Black diamond truffle
This eye cream may come at a hefty price, but its star ingredient is harvested from Southwestern France and reportedly has the ability to revitalise and brighten the eye area by boosting collagen production. It comes in a thick, creamy texture and absorbs easily into skin.
Ingredients: Cocoa powder and coconut oil
It’s rich, feels luxurious when applied and has the most invigorating coffee scent. The crushed cocoa powder helps to buff skin, while coconut oil has nourishing properties. After washing it off, skin feels thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed, and is also softer to the touch. Use it as a pick-me-up after a long, tiring day.
Ingredient: Blue chamomile
If skin has been dry and dull lately, use this light, floral-scented gel mask for instant results: brighter, smoother skin. Blue chamomile helps to purify and balance skin, while ginger root calms and soothes. To be used once or twice a week, you can either leave it on overnight or wash it off after 30 minutes.
Ingredient: Avocado oil
The eye cream looks and feels exactly like the fruit and contains avocado oil to moisturise and hydrate the delicate eye area. The skin under our eyes appeared plumper and less crepey after leaving it on overnight.
Ingredient: Pomegranate
This sweet-smelling anti-ageing cream contains organically-grown and hand-harvested pomegranate extract from south-east Turkey and reportedly reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Ingredient: Grapefruit oil
The body wash foams into a mild lather and leaves skin feeling buttery smooth. The subtle citrus scent also helps us de-stress.
Ingredients: Almond extract, honey, coconut oil and avocado oil
While the almond scent is rather strong (it conjures up images of a bowl of almond-flavoured beancurd), we like how the facial wash foams easily and removes impurities from skin with just one to two pumps of the product.
Ingredients: Honey and a concoction of peach, pumpkin, apricot and fig oils.
Contrary to the long list of fruity ingredients above, the product does not smell saccharinely sweet. Rather, it has a light, citrusy scent and comes in a creamy texture with microbeads to exfoliate skin. The result: Skin feels powdery smooth.
Ingredients: Reishi and chaga mushrooms, turmeric and ginger
The list of ingredients here may sound like it’s for a recipe, but all of these work to improve skin resilience against environmental stressors. The no-rinse cleanser – said to unclog pores, hydrate and boost radiance – comes in a watery texture and leaves a cooling after-effect.
Ingredient: Cucumber
With cucumber and aloe to soothe skin, this is gentle on skin and feels cool on the face when applied. Scent-wise, expect just a subtle hint of cucumber.
Ingredient: Goji extract
Better known as wolfberry, Goji extract has anti-oxidant properties and also neutralises free radicals which wreak havoc on skin. This primer acts as a makeup base to smoothen skin and help makeup stay on longer. Skin also feels less dry after applying it.
Ingredient: Green tea
One of the best daytime fragrances to wear out: It’s light, zesty and refreshing, and strikes the right balance between crisp and floral notes.
Ingredient: Tangerine peel essence
The peel contains twice the amount of vitamin C and four times the amount of vitamin E compared to the fruit itself. The serum comes with a whopping 82 per cent, and we dig the zesty orange scent as well as its purpose: diminish dark spots by preventing melanin production, smoothen pores and even skin tone.
Ingredients: Pomegranate and grapeseed extracts
If you’re looking for a shower gel that is gentle on skin and doesn’t have an overpowering scent, this is it. Pomegranate and grapeseed extracts as well as argan oil help to nourish and soften skin.
Ingredients: Rice and wheat proteins and honey
Best for thin, flat hair, the shampoo gives you thicker, fuller locks as it doesn’t strip hair of its natural lipids (i.e. fats). Bonus: The floral scent that lingers on hair for a few hours.
Ingredient: Ginseng
The gel eye mask comes steeped in a soothing ginseng scent, and it works to tighten and refresh the eye area.
