Shanghai Dolly

Hong Kong film director Wong Kar Wai’s glamorous holiday collection for Shu Uemura is dramatically different from the brand’s kawaii holiday collaborations of recent years. But the metallics, golds and rich blues are exactly what you’d expect from the filmmaker known for his lush, romantic cinematography.

Chinese-French actress Sandrine Pinna (above) fronts the campaign. The star pieces: fluttery and seductive false lashes, $125, with glitter to catch the light as you bat your eyelids.

Lenticular printing on the packaging gives the illusion of glittery eyes that flutter as you open and close the palettes.

Wong designed three lipstick shades: a deep red with gold shimmer, a warm glossy pink and a nude beige flecked with gold. $39 each

The Eye and Cheek Palette in Bleu, $115, has intensely pigmented blues and purple for evening eyes, a silver glitter and pink blushes in cream and powder.

There are two nail sets in the collection: pearly red and gold glitter, and cool royal blue and sparkling silver polish. $49 per pair.

To Good Health
Most women here seem to think using just moisturiser is enough, let alone adding a pre-serum booster to their routine. So why is L’Oreal launching one? According to the brand, the most basic principle of skincare is giving it a healthy start. Natasha Chiam reports.

Turn up the lights
Neon lips don’t have to be a tacky relic from the ’80s. This season’s are still bright, but rich and matte, not fluorescent, and best worn with natural-looking eyes.

Hair Apparent
When it comes to makeup brushes, the key thing is how soft they are. And cult Japanese brand Artisan & Artist, famous for its calligraphy brush heritage, really knows how to make them oh-so-soft (if we had blankets made from them, we’d never get out of bed). How? Because each hair is placed and cut by hand at a specific angle so there’s zero scratch. Bonus point: All natural hairs are cruelty free, which means no animals are killed or hurt to produce the brushes. At Schmidt Marketing Flagship Store.
