Speaking From Experience : Daniel Salce and Lance Blanchette

Keratin repairs hair.
DS: Hair is made up of protein, which consists of amino acid chains. Regardless of the kind of hair you have, curly or straight, each healthy strand has 19 amino acids, which are reproduced over and over again.

Hair that’s damaged by UV exposure, neglect or chemicals doesn’t have all 19 amino acids. You need to have the exact sequence of amino acids for beautiful tresses. This is where Joico comes in. It’s known as the top hair reconstructor in the world. All its products have keratin proteins that mimic those sequences, and they’re small enough to get into the hair cortex to fix the damage.

Know your hair’s pH.

DS: Hair, like skin, has a 4.5 to 5.5 pH value, the scale by which we measure acidity and alkalinity. If your hair product’s pH is high, it’ll swell your hair. If that’s done every day, hair cuticles are left open, losing moisture and nutrients. If the pH is too low, the acid strips hair of its natural oils.

LB: For example, baby shampoo has a high pH level, so if an adult uses it, it could curl her hair. People have this misconception that if baby shampoo is gentle enough for infants, then it must be good for adults. But baby shampoo ads don’t talk about how good they are for the baby’s hair; they talk about how gentle they are for their eyes – because the shampoos have the same pH level as eyes. But this doesn’t mean that it’s good for hair.

DS: That’s why we test every batch of our products, as the pH level can vary. For some companies, this is too costly.

True dandruff is thick, oily and smells.

DS: Most people think that white flakes on the shoulder means you have a dandruff problem, but that just means you have a dry scalp, which can be handled easily with a daily moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Real dandruff consists of very pungent flakes that are peeling from the scalp. Joico Daily Care Treatment Shampoo has jojoba oil to alleviate itching and sensitivity, and prevent oil build-up. It even works as a body wash for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

Hair Apparent
When it comes to makeup brushes, the key thing is how soft they are. And cult Japanese brand Artisan & Artist, famous for its calligraphy brush heritage, really knows how to make them oh-so-soft (if we had blankets made from them, we’d never get out of bed). How? Because each hair is placed and cut by hand at a specific angle so there’s zero scratch. Bonus point: All natural hairs are cruelty free, which means no animals are killed or hurt to produce the brushes. At Schmidt Marketing Flagship Store.
