WE LOVE JAPAN: The Style Makers
JULIUS

Design brain: Tatsuro Horikawa started the menswear brand as an art project in 2001. Now, it’s lauded by the international press, with shows at Paris Fashion Week, and is stocked in over 20 countries.
The look: Japan’s answer to Rick Owens – black and drapes are the basis for every collection. Citing underground culture, fetishism and Zen spirituality as major influences, Horikawa summarises his style as “the tailoring of a vampire dandy, with the draping and simplicity of a monk”.
What to buy: Take away the gothic styling, and what you get are minimal, versatile, well-cut pieces like flowing tops in superfine knits, slim pants, military boots and leather scarves. Manufacturing is done in Japan and fabrics are from Italy.
Price range: From $510
for a top to $4,000 for
leather pants. From: Blackjack
