bawah island private islands

For many of us, a beach getaway is a sure-fire way to get some Vitamin Sea. And if you’re tired of the same old options – as sunny and picturesque as they are – then Bawah Island, which is opening in the summer of 2017, will definitely give Bali and Phuket a run for their money. Here’s why:

#1: You can stay in over-water villas

The islands are located within Indonesia’s Anambas archipelago, and you’ll arrive here by seaplane after taking a ferry from Singapore to Batam. Of its 35 villas, there are 11 water villas that bring a slice of the Maldives to the region, and will provide you with the most stunning sunrise and sunset views.

Besides the water villas, there are also 21 beach villas and three garden villas located on the expansive property.

#2: You can explore the island’s untouched natural habitats

Adventurous types and nature buffs will love it here – Bawah Island will offer guests opportunities to snorkel in clear waters and hikes through its primary forest, which has never been cut or burnt (you’ll probably spot trees that are a whopping 80 metres tall).

#3: The resort champions sustainable design

Designed by Singaporean architect Sim Boon Yang, the resort is housed in an official marine conservation area in which fishing, anchoring and collection of marine life is forbidden. Heavy machinery is also not allowed to operate on the island, which means construction of the resort had to be done by hand. So you have to appreciate how every villa, which comes with a bedroom, bathroom and living area, features sustainable materials like bamboo and recycled teak, while the bath and shower areas are made of recycled copper. Talk about eco-conscious living.

#4: The Club House offers an unbeatable view

Reportedly designed as a treetop space, the club house is home to a beach-side infinity pool, a yoga pavilion, a viewing balcony and a spa. Or if you prefer to wander around outside the resort, there are 13 beaches and three lagoons for you to explore. A maximum of 70 guests are permitted to be on Bawah Island, so if you’re looking for privacy or a romantic tete-a-tete, sign yourselves up. Rates unavailable at press time
