keong saik road carnival

You may be familiar with Keong Saik Road for all the cool dining establishments that populate it, from majestic four-storey restaurant/bar space Potato Head Folk to Australian cafe implant Luxe. This month, there’s another reason to head down: the Keong Saik Carnival, a street market and live music and culture event that will take over Keong Saik Road from 12pm to 10:30pm on Saturday, May 28.

What’s part of the line-up so far: A fashion bazaar hawking wares from multi-label boutique Kapok, lifestyle store Supplies & Co. and local menswear clothing label Sundays, as well as a limited edition streetwear collection by British graphic artist Fergadelic for Potato Head Folk’s restaurant Three Buns (he’s designed clothing for the now-defunct Marc By Marc Jacobs line). There’ll also be a pop-up vinyl store, an art installation by local collective Tell Your Children, lion dance performances and even a carousel that children – or the young at heart – can ride.

The carnival organisers have also brought in international acts from China, like Beijing-based DJ Howie Lee and Shanghainese DJs ChaCha and Drunk Monk, to amp up the party atmosphere throughout the day. Don’t miss live music performances by some of Singapore’s hottest DJs, too, including all-girl trio Attagirl!, which the Female Collective’s Amanda Keisha Ang is a part of.

And what’s a good party without great grub? Potato Head Folk’s executive chef Adam Penney will be whipping up burgers and tasty side dishes (we’re hoping their naughty fries will be up for grabs), while you can knock back tipples from award-winning mixologist Mohamed Irwan.
