It might only be midweek but there’s no harm planning out your weekend schedule in advance. This weekend (27th and 28th May), Singapore’s creative community will be coming together for a special takeover of the New Majestic hotel before its conversion into a private members club known as the Straits Clan, slated to open in the first half of 2018.
The New Majestic hotel was previously the city’s first ever design hotel built 11 years ago and had invited nine of Singapore’s then-emerging artists to integrate their brand of artistry into the hotel spaces. Five top individuals in their respective art fields were also given the liberty to personalise a room each as a tribute to the design scene in Singapore. Straits Clan plans to cater to entrepreneurs and creatives engaged in social change and will feature dining establishments, bars and various facilities such as a gym, spa and events hall.
With such a prominent role in the design scene, it’s no wonder the organisers (Keepers, helmed by Carolyn Kan who’s also the founder of local jewellery brand, Carrie K. together with Straits Clan) are giving a huge shoutout through this highly anticipated event.
Dubbed as Multiply: A Majestic Playground, this one-of-a-kind 2-day event will feature over 50 of Singapore’s most inspiring tastemakers, designers and craftsmen who will be occupying all four stories of the building, sharing their own personal stories and showcasing their works. For its first edition, Straits Clan and Keepers aims to bring together the disciplines of art, design, drink, fashion, food, and music. Here, we give you an insight on what to expect on every floor of the building.
