20-Year-Old Singapore DJ Sofklo Is Heating Up The Local Music Scene

There’s no denying the appeal of the female pop chanteuse/rock star or female-fronted band. Add a dose of rebelliousness, a quirk (or a few) and an indie spirit, and the cool factor goes off the charts. We speak to seven ruling the Singapore scene, including local DJ Sofklo.

Who’s that girl: Born Soffi Peters, this 20-year-old is not your typical club banger. Her tunes are “mostly experimental with dreamy textures” plus elements of classical music (she’s currently pursuing a BA in it from Singapore Raffles Music College).

Know her ’cos: It’s seldom that you get this package of doe-eyed good looks, hypnotic EDM chops, and a classical music background. After three years of uploading audio mixes online, she was featured at Kaleidoscope, an event co-curated by Zouk’s Velvet Underground to spotlight new talents, in 2015. Last July, she made her live DJ debut at Attagirl’s third anniversary bash at music hotspot Blu Jaz Cafe.

What’s next for 2017: While school’s keeping her busy, a gig in the region later this year is in the pipeline. Meanwhile, check out her Soundcloud – she drops new material regularly.
