Love a good weekend brunch or keen to try experimental, adventurous dishes? Some of your favourite Singapore cafes and restaurants have recently launched brand-new menus. We highlight why they’re worth paying a visit to and what you should try there.
The Kilo Kallang space has undergone a massive revamp, and the same extends to its menu. Co-created by Kilo Bali chef Tim Forster and co-founder Joshua Adjodha, new dishes are deceptively simple visually, but come with surprising flavour and texture combinations. A dish named Sea Urchin (above, $28), for example, comes with matcha cream, earl grey and garden pickles.
Apart from the new offerings, Kilo fans will be happy to know that familiar favourites – the truffled tai yuzu roll, cream of ebiko pasta and squid ink rice – will still be available. Level M 66 Kampong Bugis, call 6467-3987 to make a reservation
The Dempsey Road establishment’s latest menu update features 10 new local-inspired dishes such as a steak tartar marinated with ginger chilli ($26++); tempura ginger frog legs ($26++); and a roasted pink red snapper ($32++), which comes with a house-made roselle and hibiscus ketchup.
Desserts also come with a distinctly Singaporean touch, like a pandan and banana custard ($18++) served with sugarcane sorbet and freeze-dried bananas. If you’re partial to their dedication to farm-fresh dining, their new plates will be equally appealing. 130E Minden Road, call 6471-0306 for reservations
The chic restaurant welcomes a new chef, British assistant head chef Ayodeji Adeyemi, and with this comes a refreshing of its tasting menus, a joint effort by Adeyemi and chef-owner Ryan Clift. Choose between a five-course Classic menu ($275++ with pairing) or a 10-course Gourmand menu ($430++ with pairing).
Expect delightfully surprising plates like a deconstructed fish and chips risotto (above), and a sweet yet savoury foie gras reimagined with cucumber, dates, walnuts and apple. Don’t miss out on trying the restaurant’s Sensorium Menu for a selection of the most inventive cocktails. 38 Tanjong Pagar Road, call 6475 2217 for reservations
Previously, the restaurant specialised in Asian-style tapas, but it’s recently debuted a more upmarket, direction by unveiling three new tasting menus: a 10-course Kite essentials menu ($65), a 12-course Kite experience ($90) and a seasonal omakase menu ($120-$160).
Spearheaded by head chef Dannel Krishnan, plates focus mainly on modern Singaporean and Asian cuisine. Hearty mains like a mangalica pork collar are combined with local ingredients like a you tiao veloute and spiced broth, while red snapper is served with coconut calamansi vinegar, chilli and galangal, a Filipino version of ceviche. #01-01 53 Craig Road, call 6221-5965 to make a reservation
The cafe’s been a hotspot for its ice cream waffles, but its savoury dishes shouldn’t be ignored. Re-opened in November, the revamped menu has a more wholesome slant. There are brunch-friendly dishes such as the Crabcake Reunion ($18.90), a moist crabcake topped with avocado chunks, ikura, asparagus and a poached egg, and superfood bowls made of acai, chia pudding or avocado ($11.90 each) – a sure-fire hit with the health-conscious crowd. 33-35 Kampong Bahru Road, call 6222-4869 to make a reservation
