Okay I might be a little biased – as someone who wears a newsboy cap 90% of the time, I would definitely advocate more people to give them a go. But not everyone wants to look like they just sprang out of the pages of Oliver Twist. Here’s how you can try your hand at it:

#1: First, a trip down the memory lane

One of the original supermodels, Christy Turlington demonstrates the part French, part boyish charm of the hat.

It could also look bad ass, when jazzed up with embellishments like this version by what looks to be vintage Chanel on Helena Christensen.

#2: The 2017 revival

Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid have all been infatuated with the style of late, with Bella even showing off her first design collaboration (with Chrome Hearts) – and it took the form of a newsboy cap, naturally.

#3: Some cinematic inspiration

Make like French actress Melanie Laurent’s character in the film Inglourious Basterds. While the film was set during the World War 2 era, Laurent’s mannish and insouciant outfit (and demeanor) could easily see her in a modern day Parisian cafe.

#4: Do it the street style star way

Showcasing the versatility of the style, British fashion editor Lucy Williams and our very own Yoyo Cao gave two very different takes on the newsboy cap.

Williams went for a straight forward model-off-duty look – think a great leather jacket, skinny jeans and booties while Cao opted for a more autumnal vibe with her fantastic trench coat and earth-toned colour palette.

Like this? Check out why 2016 belonged to Yoyo Cao, how Kendall Jenner slayed last year with her outfits and why the Tommy Hilfiger X Gigi Hadid collection makes so much sense.
