He’s been doling out collaborations after collaborations with Adidas Originals since 2014. Pharell Williams is still going strong at it because for one reason: They always sell. However, his take on designer sneakers has always been reinterpretations of the brand’s signature designs. Just look at what he did with the NMD and Stan Smith sneakers. pharell williamsDubbed the Tennis Hu, the two-piece strong collection is fashioned after the white tennis sneakers. The “Hu” (say “hue” is a nod to “human”) — refers to the special range Williams launched last year to promote human diversity.

One pair comes with green soles and laces and green heel tab, while the other sports yellow soles and laces and golden heel tab. The references to the Stan Smith and Forest Hill respectively are unmistakable. It’s the details Williams gave the footwear that make them new.

pharell williamsOn one hand, the shoes come with a futuristic slant thanks to their sleek and breathable fabric uppers and lightweight soles. On the other, they have that vintage ’70s vibe that makes Adidas Originals such a fashion magnet. What that means: You can wear this for a run or for the street style. Which is why we think they are going to be the new Stan Smiths.
