The Style Coaches

A personal shopper can help you buy new clothes. What she can’t do: give you the confidence to wear them. That’s where the latest lot of style coaches comes in. instead of changing how others see you, she’ll change how you see yourself. Rather than rush you to a mall, she’ll want to hear your problems first.

Her aim is to get to the root of why you feel unattractive or out of shape. Maybe you need to get to the gym or rebalance your diet. It’s all about setting mini-goals, building your self-esteem and finding your way, not just your style.

It’s not easy work. It generally starts with four two-hour sessions of therapy. Yes, therapy. Like in a therapist’s office. After that, the style coach will analyse your body shape, skin tone, and why your existing wardrobe doesn’t work. Then, she’ll take you shopping. But she won’t impose a style on you because by that time, you’ll have the confidence to choose for yourself.

Most women here seem to think using just moisturiser is enough, let alone adding a pre-serum booster to their routine. So why is L’Oreal launching one? According to the brand, the most basic principle of skincare is giving it a healthy start. Natasha Chiam reports.

Turn up the lights
Neon lips don’t have to be a tacky relic from the ’80s. This season’s are still bright, but rich and matte, not fluorescent, and best worn with natural-looking eyes.

Hair Apparent
When it comes to makeup brushes, the key thing is how soft they are. And cult Japanese brand Artisan & Artist, famous for its calligraphy brush heritage, really knows how to make them oh-so-soft (if we had blankets made from them, we’d never get out of bed). How? Because each hair is placed and cut by hand at a specific angle so there’s zero scratch. Bonus point: All natural hairs are cruelty free, which means no animals are killed or hurt to produce the brushes. At Schmidt Marketing Flagship Store.
