stylish home

Ever noticed how the scent of baked bread, roasted bacon and freshly-cut grass permeating the home always makes us you go (insert smiley face emoji)? It’s this concept of familiarity and happiness that guided Anya Hindmarch — and her nose — when creating her first home fragrance collection which drops at the brand’s Takashimaya D.S. store this month.

stylish home The British bag designer who is known for her irreverent sense of humour — cue her spoof of the Kellogg’s Coco Pops, potato chips wrappers and more —  has an equally witty name for that debut too. Called Anya Hindmarch Smells, the line comprises three candles named Sun Lotion, Coffee and Baby Powder because — get this — that is exactly how they smell.

Of course, Hindmarch got some help in the olfactory department. She turned to one of the best noses in the business to concoct a sophisticated repertoire. That task falls on the shoulders of cult perfumer Lyn Harris, the same person behind British fragrance brand Perfumer H who is known for her modern and sleek approach to perfumery.

The Sun Lotion, for instance, is a floral fragrance that is meant to evoke summers with its fresh notes of Italian bergamot, Sicilian Lemons, orange flowers from Tunisia, and cedar wood from Texas. Meanwhile. the soft scent of Baby Powder reminds you of the newborn baby skin thanks to a clever blend of Italian mandarin and rose petal with violet leaf from France and tonka bean from Venezuela. Lastly, the woody Coffee fragrance contains notes like galbanum from Iran, cardamom from India and Virginia cedar.

And just like Hindmarch bags, each candle holder comes with a leather embossed sticker featuring motifs like the emoji-like eyeballs or various speech bubbles. Smells about right to us.
