On the runway

Hot on the S/S ’17 runway: Trench coats with boxy shoulders, cut-outs and a slouchy silhouette. Hermes’ dusky pink version lent a feminine touch, while Balenciaga’s ’80s inspired take gave off androgynous vibes. Celine’s checkered trench, meanwhile, subverted the coat’s conventional purpose (i.e. to keep oneself warm) by adding cut-out panels on each side.

All Marc Jacobs

But it was at Marc Jacobs that the trench truly got a fashion-forward update, thanks to the designer’s use of materials such as velvet, as well as metallic lame finishes and a folksy patchwork print.

Other fashion show-goers also experimented with different colours, textures and cuts.
