WOOD WORK

There’s a reason many musical instruments are made of wood: Its natural acoustic resonance creates a warmer, richer tone than anything else. Now, headphone makers have caught on. German specialist Ultrasone’s luxe Edition 10s ($3,999) combines African Zebrano hardwood and wear-resistant ruthenium, a platinum-like metal, while Japanese brand Audio-Technica has versions in cherry ($399) and ebony ($1,499). All give a clear, deep bass, and sharp, smooth sound. From Stereo, #04-06 Plaza Singapura, tel: 6336-7113/4, www.stereo.com.sg.

Ultrasone’s Edition 10s have sheepskin leather earpads that fit comfortably and block external noise.
