Op-Ed: Our Beauty Editor Starts The New Year With A New Obsession

The best thing about covering the beauty beat as a journalist: Discovering – and trying – a load of interesting and fun skincare and makeup. And this new “balm” has just become one of my must-haves.

beauty obsessionI’ve always been a big fan of discovering – and trying out – smart products. Think serums that only release ingredients into skin when necessary to prevent overloading your cells, foundations that help to balance your face by mattifying certain parts of your face while hydrating others and mascara wands that you can adjust so it fits the curve of your lash line. And thankfully, covering the beauty beat gives me first dibs on all the latest and greatest.

My most recent beauty obsession is especially personal because I’ve always loved lip balms. I apply it every morning and evening after my shower, because the heat from the water can dehydrate puckers, and sporadically throughout the day to keep my lips plump and prevent lines or cracks from forming. It’s just one of the things I have to do daily (along with double cleansing, masking and applying a whole lot of sunscreen).

This one, however, goes above and beyond by combining two of faves: exfoliating and hydrating. The Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub ($48) is an exfoliating and nourishing stick with grains of sugar that scrub of surface dead skin then melts away to nourish dry skin. And as if that’s not impressive enough, it leaves a soft pinkish wash of colour so your lips feel and look smooth, dewy and rosy. I just can’t stop using this.
