When it comes to mixing artistry with makeup, no one does it quite like Shu Uemura. And this isn’t just apparent in the beauty brand’s colours and textures, but also in its makeup tools. After all, founder Mr. Shu Uemura always believed that “great tools evoke inspiration, they constantly lead us to excellence.”
Following with philosophy, the Japanese brand’s international chief makeup artist and product designer Yuji Asano wanted to create a universal foundation tool that would give a beautiful yet still natural and streak free finish. And after almost 10 years and countless research, he created the Petal 55 Foundation Brush ($80).
Yuji worked with Japanese architect Kumiko Inui to create the faceted diamond-like shaped brush with not only allowed for a comfortable grip but is also able to work with all the different angles of the face. The wide end of the brush is perfect for applying foundation on larger surface areas of the face like the cheeks and chin, while the narrow end can be used for a more precise application on more delicate areas like around the eyes and nose.
As with all of Shu Uemura’s specialist brushes, each of the Petal 55 Foundation Brushes are handcrafted by skilled Japanese artisans. With 189,000 soft and flexible bristles, it is said to give an even finish that never streaks, even if you apply your makeup with your eyes closed.
While the Petal 55 Foundation Brush can be used with any base makeup, the brand recommends pairing it with the Petal Skin Fluid Foundation ($68). Inspired by the delicacy of flower petals, the lightweight foundation gives a translucent, radiant finish that looks flawless without being heavy. It is infused with botanical oleo-veil to refine and smooth skin’s surface, as well as floral extracts to hydrate, brighten and fight free radical damage.
To round up the Petal collection, Shu Uemura has just launched a new Petal Skin Cushion Foundation ($78). It has a liquid-to-powder formula evenly distributes colour pigments in a thin, weightless layer for poreless radiant-matte finish that is perfect for hot and humid climates like Singapore. The cushion formula is also infused with Japanese sakura, white lily and white jasmine extracts to boost cell turnover, refine your complexion and moisturise. The entire Petal collection is available islandwide at all Shu Uemura counters.
