Our Edit Of The Best Anti-Hair Loss Shampoos To Maintain Your Mane

Here’s to full, luscious locks that would make Beyoncé jealous

With Singapore’s fast-paced city living, stress and pollution go hand in hand to wreak havoc on our scalps to result in hair loss. In addition, other factors such as heat and colour treatment, an unbalanced diet and lack of sleep also work to further exacerbate the condition. For those who are afflicted, or feel like they are seeing early signs, here are 10 anti-hair loss and thinning shampoos that might help.

Ryo Hair Loss Shampoo For Oily Scalp, $19.90
People who suffer from oily scalps need to cleanse their scalps properly. This is because it is often the oil buildup in the scalp that blocks off hair follicles, leading to eventual hair loss. Popular Korean haircare label Ryo employs their proprietary technology GinsenEXTM that contains ginseng extract as well as a cocktail of different ingredients like green tea, ginger, camellia and pine needle to combat such problems.   Pregaine Frequent Use Shampoo, $31.70
With a combination of vitamin B5, hydrolysed wheat protein and wheat amino acids, this Pregaine shampoo is aimed at nourishing the scalp and hair while adding body and volume to thinning hair. The shampoo also claims to be pH-balanced to support scalp and hair health. DrGL Cleanser Hair Anti-Hairloss, $98 from Sephora
Created by Singaporean aesthetics doctor Georgia Lee, this shampoo is fortified with amino acids, vitamins, manganese and glycine soja oil to strengthen hair, fight free radicals, treat inflammation and promote hair growth. The proprietary formula also promotes blood circulation to help follicles receive all the nutrients they need. Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Shampoo, $35 from Sephora
Briogeo uses ginseng, biotin and vitamin B5 to stimulate the follicles and aid blood circulation and hair growth, while maltodextrin volumises and separates each strand to make your mane look beautifully full and thick. This shampoo is sulfate-, silicone- and paraben-free. The line also consists of a conditioner and a hair spray. ICM Pharma Growell Shampoo, $30.60
Seven plant extracts — nettle, thyme, coltsfoot, horsetail, yarrow, birch and rosemary — are incorporated into this shampoo to provide deep yet gentle cleansing for sufferers of thinning hair. Use the matching Growell scalp tonic after to complete the experience. Alpecin Hair Energizer C1 Caffeine Shampoo, $12.90
German label Alpecin uses a caffeine complex as the main active ingredient in their shampoos. The complex contains caffeine, zinc and niacin, which supposedly travel along the hair shaft, penetrating the scalp to help stimulate hair growth and reduce loss. Plantur 39 Phyto-Caffeine Shampoo, $18.90
Like Alpecin, Plantur 39 is another brand that uses caffeine as its main force against hair loss. Caffeine is said to inhibit the enzyme that converts testosterone (found in both sexes) into a chemical that stops hair follicles from growing (i.e stopping hair growth and renewal). As with caffeine shampoos, leave it on for two minutes before rinsing it out to allow the compound to penetrate the scalp. Rene Furterer Triphasic Shampoo, $39.90
René Furterer uses a blend of orange, lavender and rosemary essential oils to purify and clean the scalp, while pfaffia extract helps nutrients to reach the scalp and follicles. The oils are contained in microbeads, which burst when the shampoo is being massaged into the hair, for a deliciously invigorating experience. Finish off the treatment with the conditioner and hair serum from the complementary line. This shampoo is paraben-, SLS- and silicone-free. PHS Hairscience FEM Fortify Shampoo, $48
PHS Hairscience uses Korean botanical essences and stem cells to target early signs of hair loss in women. It does so by unclogging pores, removing sebum and energising the scalp. PHS Hairscience also has a thickening version for people who suffer from severe hair loss as well as a collection for men. Follow up with the matching conditioner and scalp tonic for a more complete treatment. Klorane Quinine Shampoo, $18.90
Klorane employs a cocktail of quinine and B vitamins to support microcirculation, hydrate the hair shaft, reduce sebum, strengthen keratin and increase metabolic energy to revitalise and fortify the scalp. It can also strengthen and detangle hair strands. Finish the haircare routine with their conditioner and scalp serum from the same range.
