The Tinted Sunscreens That Work For Darker Skin Tones

How do you make a darker-skinned woman laugh? Tell her you found a tinted sunscreen in her shade, and you’ll hear her cackling. That’s because the 40 shades trend that Fenty Beauty has made popular hasn’t actually trickled down to the tinted sunscreens realm, and the deepest tones usually makes most of us chocolate-skinned women pretty ashy. While it is a tall order find a shade that actually works for you, we’re sharing the few exceptions that have our stamp of approval.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, $77
Probably the holy grail of tinted sunscreens for its shade range alone (they have 15 options) this baby gives your skin an airbrushed effect. A little goes a long way, so you’ll have this tube forever. The only downside is that it only has SPF20. Comes in four shades, this one from Tarte will mattify your face while protecting it from the sun. The colours are pigmented, but the darkest tone might not work for those with deep chocolate skin. Image: Instagram (@tartecosmetics) First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer
With SPF 30, this is a great substitute for a light coverage foundation if the shade matches you. It’s weightless and it actually repairs your skin from acne and redness. Image: Instagram ( Shiseido Global Suncare HydroBB Compact for Sports, $45
To prevent sticky skin and sunscreen meltdowns, Shiseido recently launched a tinted compact with SPF50. Not only does that mean you have met the minimum sun protection factor number recommended by doctors, Shiseido has invented a technology that creates a hydrophilic veil on the face to diffuse sweat across the surface of the skin to speed up drying time. Very nifty for the sweltering days ahead.
