The Treatment
As with most spa treatments, this one starts with a detailed consultation with the therapist, plus a survey to better understand my needs and concerns (the questions ranged from your lifestyle habits, problems you are facing now and even emotional behaviour). From there the therapist then chooses from four treatments – We-Relax, We-De-stress, We-Revive and We-Strengthen – each using different techniques and oils such as the Deep Relax (made with sandalwood and chamomile) and Revive Morning Oils (this contains rosemary and pink grapefruit) to help heal your body and mind.
My therapist chose the We-De-stress treatment for me where I selected the de-stress muscle oil (I had a choice of two) before being led away to a room for the 60-minute treatment. She begins by rubbing the essential oil onto her palms before placing it over my nose (this is done at the end too). She then cleanses, tones and applies a facial oil onto my face. For the body massage part of the treatment, she uses the de-stress muscle oil starting from my lower back, using long, deep strokes that are not too painful to work out the knots and relax the entire body. The oil which is made with rosemary, black pepper, lavender and ginger is soothing and a little warm (because of the ginger), which also helps to relieve muscle aches, pains and stiffness in joints. To end, I was treated to a scalp massage followed by my decollete and arms using the same oil.
The Verdict
This treatment was so comforting and calming that I drifted in and out of sleep throughout the session. It helped that the scent of the oil was subtle and not too overpowering, and the massage strokes had just the right amount of pressure. What I really liked as well were the words the therapist shared with me like “kind words, kind thoughts and kind actions” to recite and remind myself whenever I start to feel stressed. Not only did this help to prolong the effects of the treatment but I felt this was really effective as a mindfulness measure and left me feeling well-rested, rejuvenated and calm. $160, The Fullerton Spa (The Fullerton Hotel), tel: 6877-8182/8183
