We’re Hot For Chanel’s New SS20 Makeup Collection

Chanel's SS'20 makeup collection is the perfect trifecta of pretty, wearable and chic.

Fashionable makeup is not always the easiest to carry off, but sometimes we meet the rare unicorn that’s modern and gorgeous both on the palette and your face. The aptly named Desert Dream collection was inspired by hues of quartzes and basalts scattered across the desert floor, and forests bleached by the relentless sun, all seen through the eyes of a polaroid camera.

“The muted colors of the desert and the muted tones of Polaroid came together to create a palette that exemplifies calm. Sometimes the references were quite literal – pink quartz lying on the ground, for example, giving off a shimmery pink light in the sun that immediately made me think of an eyeshadow or illuminating powder,” explained Lucia Pica, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer.

The entire range is filled with peachy rose tones, cool browns and the romantic undercurrents of mauve, whose shimmering, at times metallic textures is meant to echo the desert’s hidden treasures.

The Desert Dream collection consists of two highlighters (a powder and a balm), two eyeshadow palettes, five liquid eyeshadows, two creamy eyeshadow crayons, two lippies and two nail polishes.

Our personal favourites is the Exclusive Creation Eclat du Desert and the range of Ombre Premiere Lacques. The former is a satiny pink-beige powder highlighter that is etched with the image of sand dunes and gives you a soft, rosy glow. The latter is a collection of five liquid eyeshadows that you can apply with your fingers or a brush. You can use the lighter shades as a base to brighten your peepers, or the deeper colours to create a gorgeous smoky eye.

Everything in the range has a certain softness in the texture, finish and colour that makes them all really wearable. There’s a warmth to the entire range that is easy to blend and even slightly dreamy. We’re obsessed.
