Bespoke is big right now, be it in fashion, beauty or lifestyle. After all, who doesn’t love a customised product that is created exactly to your preference or that caters to your needs. And this is especially important when it comes to skincare because we all have different skin types and needs. Capitalising on this, Dior beauty’s new preemptive ageing range – Capture Youth – allows you to create personalised treatment.

But before we go into how it does so, lets’ talk some science. Ageing doesn’t appear overnight, as you get older and accumulate skin damage, invisible signs of skin ageing become visible. Inspired by the latest trend in the medical field of predictive medicine (which tries to anticipate problems before they appear and personalise a treatment to prevent diseases from occurring), the Dior Capture Youth range anticipates ageing by targeting and treating yet unseen damage and boosting the overall health of skin cells.

The star ingredient in this range is the Florentine Iris extract, which helps to boost skin’s own natural antioxidant defense system so it can better fight the negative effects from fatigue, UV rays, pollution and stress. By blocking damage from occurring, skin is able to look younger for longer.

The Capture Youth line consists of one universal moisturiser and five targeted serums for a personalised treatment. The Age-Delay Advanced Creme is made with two butters (shea and cocoa) as well as vegetable oil to intensely hydrate and nourish skin. It has the highest concentration of the antioxidant-rich Florentine iris extract that helps to stimulate skin’s internal resistance, leaving the complexion smoother, softer and more toned skin.

The five serums all target different problems and can be mixed and matched according to your own preference. “We made the range to resemble a tool box,” says Edouard Mauvais-Jarvis, Parfums Christian Dior Environmental and Scientific Communication Director, “people can pick and choose what tools they need for their own skin.” For example, the Glow Booster has vitamin C and AHA to immediately brighten and energise tired or stressed skin to give you a radiant complexion, while the Plump Filler is infused with three different sizes of botanical hyaluronic acid to hydrate all layers of skin for a supple complexion.  Matte Maximizer is a must-have for oily and combination skin as it has lactic acid to refine pores and control excess shine. The Lift Sculptor contains green and white tea extracts to improve skin tone and elasticity for a firmer, more sculpted appearance. Great for sensitive skin, the Redness Soother uses cotton peptides to calm irritation, strengthen skin and reduce redness.

However, what truly sets this range apart from the rest is how much freedom you have to decide how you want to use the products. While most skincare ranges will tell you how and when to use their products, the Capture Youth line leaves the power in your hands. You not only can pick and choose which serums to use, you can even decide how you want to use them.

For example, you can use the most common method, which is to apply the serums one after another, or even choose to mix the serums together before application. If you have more targeted needs, like an oily T-zone but dehydrated cheeks, you can also apply different serums to different parts of your face. To save time, you can even add the serums to your moisturiser. The Matte Maximizer is even suitable to be applied after your moisturiser to balance skin and prevent oiliness.

If you want to apply more serums but don’t want to overload your complexion with too many products at a time, you can also use maybe two serums in the morning and choose different ones for night. The textures all penetrate immediately and leave absolutely no residue, so you don’t have to worry about any heaviness when layering.

The formulas were made with fewer but more effective ingredients, to prevent sensitivity and ensure that all the serums are compatible with each other. And while there are no rules, there are suggestions. Generally, try to apply the serum that targets your main concern first. And while you can technically use all five serums at a go, the Brigitte Noe, Parfums Christian Dior director of Formulation Laboratories, recommends about two would be enough as most women would not have that many problems.

And if you’re wondering who should use this line, well, the answer is anyone. “This range keeps things as they are, but they won’t correct any problems,” says Mauvais-Jarvis. “So if you like the way your skin looks now, then you should use it as it will help to preserve your complexion as it is, whether you are in your 20s, 30s or 40s.”
