The Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Collection Is Finally Here And It Is Awesome

It’s no secret that whatever Rihanna touches turns to gold. Not only is she one of the best-selling artists of all time (she has sold over 230 million records), her Fenty Puma collaboration has been met with rave reviews from fans and fashion critics alike. So of course when the internet would go crazy when news hit that the fashion and beauty icon was going to launch a makeup line.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna was born from the singer’s own love for makeup. “My lifelong obsession with makeup started with watching my mum put her makeup on. I always used to watch her make all these funny faces in the mirror, and I never understood that until I got older and fell in love with makeup myself and really started becoming obsessed, going to Sephora one too many times,” says the artist.

“The first time I remember having my makeup done was for this beauty pageant that I did in school. Ever since I saw foundation on my skin, it was like, I can never look at my skin without foundation again,” she says. “Now I’m making makeup that I dream teenagers could wear; women of all ages, all sizes, all skin tones, all religions, all cultures. This is exactly why I’m doing this.”

And the songbird has kept true to her promise of inclusion. For example, her Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation comes in 40 shades, and the entire range will be available in every store all around the world so you’ll definitely be able to find something in your skin tone.

As a makeup lover herself, all the products in the collection are ones that she herself uses in her regime. The range is very complexion based because foundation is one of the first makeup products that she ever used. There are 91 products in all, 90 of which are complexion-based and one gloss. The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer is a beige-pink nude shade that goes well with all skin tones. It also has an oversized applicator for easy application and a peach-vanilla scent.

We’ve tried the collection and one thing that really stood out were the products’ stellar textures. Lightweight and velvety, they left our skin looking radiant but with no oiliness. Another we loved: the awesome packaging. The boxes of the products were designed with graffiti for a more raw, urban feel, while the inside the products are housed in soft blush-nude colours that are uber feminine. This contrast was intentionally unexpected to represent Rihanna’s personality.

Here, check out the entire collection with Rihanna’s own comments on the products.

#1: Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer, $48
“I wanted it to feel soft and moisturising at the same time, as well as do the job of keeping makeup on. One of the things I really love about it is the color. It’s this soft pinky-nude, it’s really feminine. I call the color “invisipink,” cause it’s invisible but it has a warm tone, so it’s not white or chalky on the skin.” #2: Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, $50
“I really wanted to start off with something like foundation, because it’s one of the hardest products to get right. I wanted the foundation to look like perfect skin, not like makeup on skin. I’ve had my makeup done thousands of times. And when it comes to foundation, you just never know how it’s going to turn out, especially on camera. Is it going to be too chalky, or too heavy, or too oily? I think foundation should look like second skin, so it was important to me that Pro Filt’r Foundation has a soft matte finish because you still want a dewy look, but you don’t ever want your skin to be shiny. And this product has such a natural dry down – it’s my favourite thing about it.” #3: Match Stix Matte Skinstick, $37 each
“I wanted to create a product that would be flexible, to give you your concealer, your contour and your highlight. Match Stix lets you choose your best matches, and best of all, they’re magnetic, so they click together and are easy to find in your bag.” #4: Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick, $37 each
“The Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks are all fun, really colourful, with eye-catching shimmer. I like to look at these Shimmer Skinsticks like I look at my clothes in the closet. Am I doing fun? Am I doing alien? Am I doing weird? Am I doing sexy? Am I doing extra? Am I doing girl next door? You choose. The point is, there are so many and they’re so fun. You can just collect them, magnetize them and use them as you please depending on your mood, your outfit and where you’re going, the occasion.” #5: Invisimatte Blotting Powder, $44
“It’s completely mattifying, but also something you can apply throughout the day as many times as you want, without it caking up, because that is also a horrible thing to happen. I use it every day, and I take it with me wherever I go. Every red carpet you see me on, this is in my clutch. Every single time. Every paparazzi picture. I hate being greasy or getting caught oily in pictures—we all hate that—and this is the cure.” #6: Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter, $50 each3
“You have endless, endless ways to use Killawatt. You can use this on any part of your face —your eyes, your cheeks, your nose bridge, your collar bone. I like to use it on my body as well because it’s such a high sheen. You look at it and think, ‘is it going to deliver? … is it going to deliver?’ Then—BAM!—it delivers!” #7: The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, $31
“I apply this all day long. It’s truly addictive. It’s comfortable, it’s nourishing, and you just want to wear it all day. I made it because I wanted the girls to get kissed more.” #8: Invisimatte Blotting Paper, $26
“Invisimatte Blotting Paper is so fun, so small and so cute, and so right-to-the-point. When you get a little shiny, and I hate to be shiny, especially in pictures. I just take this roll out, and give it a little tear. And the most important part of this packaging is the mirror, so you can just get right to it. You can just look right in the mirror and get that grease off in a hurry. And it’s so fun and tiny that it fits right into your purse. I love the color of the blotting paper. It’s our Fenty Beauty signature pinky nude color. So, it’s really feminine. I wanted it to be a little different from regular blotting paper, I wanted it to feel a little bit sexy.” Fenty Beauty by Rihanna will be available globally at Sephora on 8th October 2017.
