#1: Hydrate your skin (and lips)
You will most likely be dehydrated after long hours of exposure from the sun so besides drinking tons of water, it’s also important to prep your skin with hydrating toners, serums and moisturisers. Stash a travel-sized bottle of mist in your bag so you can spritz it throughout the day to hydrate your skin, minimise breakouts and calm distressed skin caused by the harmful UV rays. Don’t forget to apply lip balm too.
#2: Use a primer
Make full use of your primer to prevent makeup from sliding off your face after being outdoors for hours. It also helps to minimise the appearance of pores, blur wrinkles, even out skin tone and of course, allow your foundation to remain budge-proof and last throughout the day.
#3: Opt for lightweight base makeup
It’s time to put aside your full coverage foundations because c’mon, who wants their base makeup to look and feel heavy after hours in the sun? Opt for BB and CC creams with high SPF to not only even out your skin tone, but also give you extra protection. If you need higher coverage, lightweight, yet full coverage foundations or cushion compacts will do the trick.
#4: Apply SPF
If you think the SPF in your tinted moisturiser or foundation is good enough, think again. And no, it’s not enough to just apply your sunscreen once before you head out – you constantly have to reapply it throughout the day. Being under the sun for hours calls for a sunscreen spray, which helps to reduce shine and protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Don’t forget to apply it to your neck, chest and ears too.
#5: Waterproof makeup
This is probably a no-brainer but we can’t emphasise enough the importance of applying waterproof makeup. You really don’t want your mascara or eyeliner to be leaving a trail on your cheeks by the time the festival ends so always opt for products with a waterproof and long-lasting formula. Oh, and don’t forget your eyebrows too, you don’t want that to fade off after a few hours.
#6: Skip the lipstick
You will probably be sipping on some cold drinks and munching on some bites if you’re feeling peckish and the last thing you’d want to do is to reapply that lippie of yours. Our tip? Opt for lip stains, tints or tinted lip balms. They are much more lightweight and long-wearing as compared to creamy lipsticks.
#7: Use a setting spray
Setting sprays are essential in your beauty arsenal and are especially important when you’re going out for long hours. Not only do they prolong the longevity of your look, you can also choose from either a matte or dewy finish (depends on what you prefer) and some even offer SPF.
