The Year-End Statement: Citrus Colours

holiday glamOn the fashion front, hot, happy hues like lime, lemon and orange are lending a fresh zing to the usually classic Resort season. On the beauty front, cop the look – not just because it’s a rebelliously fun and optimistic response to what’s been globally a pretty bad 11 months, but also because it’s an easier way to pull it off. Tangerine, for one, flatters and brightens Asian skin. Use it as an anchor (say, as a lippie), then pair with a swash of yellow across the lids to make it even more modern.

The Sensible Gift: Practical Christmas Makeup

Bobby Brown’s Caviar & Rubies Eye Shadow Palette ($110) packs nine incandescent, neutral hues in various finishes to recreate a range of smoky eyes.

Convenient, occasion-appropriate, and often great as festive display in the living room, year-end beauty coffrets and collectibles are sort of like hampers during CNY – they make awesome presents, but don’t always transcend the “present” tag, even if the contents are useful. (Come on, isn’t the gift set that you received last year still in storage? Or regifted to what’s-her-name?) Which is why, especially in a year when many are watching their spending, we’re singling out individual limited edition products. They tend to cost less, and this bunch offers colours that are as handy for every day as they are for Christmas eve dinner at Les Amis. In short, presents that’ll actually count.

From left: The Christmas 2017 edition of Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss ($47) leaves lips with a sophisticated, slightly glided sheen. Diorific Venis ($42) now includes fashionable yet polished jewel tones. Dior 5 Couleurs Precious Rocks ($104) is also gem-inspired (including the packaging), but is surprisingly flattering on Asian skin, and versatile.

Chanel’s Collection Libre includes four additions ($52 each) to its Rogue Allure and Rogue Allure Velvet lipstick lines, each play on classic red to suit different skin tones, with packaging to match.

YSL Beaute’s popular Touche Eclat ($62) and richly pigmented Rogue Pur Couture lipstick ($51) get the Dazzling Lights makeover, thus named for the updated packaging with a sparkling fireworks motif, while the Multi-use Holiday Holiday Look Palette ($129) from the same launch offers glamorous yet timeless makeup such as silver grey eyeshadow and light rose satin lippie.

The New Party Peepers: “Bejewel” Them

Think of this as the next evolution of the fashion-forward glitter craze Pat McGrath spawned this year: chunky, crystal stick-ons dotted around or under the eyes. Besides levelling up your Kirakira game, it’ll give you a head start on one of next season’s It beauty looks (see Jeremy Scott and Dries van Noten S/S ’18). A fresh, clean face and natural-looking brows help keep things sophisticated, while applying them just before making an entrance helps with making an entrance (and lasting the night).

Recreate the look with:
