What makes French medi-spa Estheclinic stand out from the crowd: All the machines used for their aesthetic treatments are designed and developed by them. Launched in Singapore last April, the clinic offers a range of non-invasive treatments for the face and body. One that’s worth a try: The purportedly painless Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments, which do not require the use of numbing cream.
I head down to try their Silky Smooth IPL Hair Removal treatment on my lower legs on a recent afternoon. Unlike typical IPLs, this reportedly acts twice as fast by removing 80 to 90 per cent of hair in six to ten sessions. After a quick consultation, the therapist applies a cooling gel on my legs and applies a handheld device from the clinic’s patented MacPeel No Pain System all over skin surface. The machine gradually raises the heat in the dermis layer of skin to an optimal temperature for skin cell renewal, instead of applying targeted bursts of light like traditional IPLs. This continues for the next 15 minutes, after which the gel is wiped off and a moisturiser is applied.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the treatment was as painless as it claimed to be. Although there was a prickly sensation felt during the IPL, there were no red, itchy patches on my legs post-treatment. Two and a half weeks later, the skin on my lower legs still feels smooth to the touch, and hardly any hair strands have grown back. $419 per session (for full legs), Estheclinic (72 Tras Street), tel: 6221-4797
