This New To Town Beauty Brand Is All About Using Coconut In Its Products

New to Sephora's robust lineup of beauty brands is Kopari, a coconut-based skin and body care brand that was launched in 2015. We spoke with one of the founders Gigi Goldman where she shared more about the brand and why you should definitely keep tabs on it.

On how the idea of using coconut came about

Gigi Goldman (GG): “It came about from pure practicality. I was a stay-at-home mom and I was cooking with coconut oil because I was really concerned about health and wellness so I like to cook as natural and as pure as possible and I think what you put on your skin is just as important as to what you put in your body. So all of a sudden, I started putting coconut oil on my skin. I used it from head to toe and the benefits were so immediate – the hydration, the glowing skin came so quickly and I thought this was mother nature’s ultimate hydrator. I used it on my kids and my husband as well because we all wanted that hydrated, glowing skin and I could feel good about using it because it was so pure. My husband was in the beauty business and I came to him with the idea and we both thought this was the perfect synergy but what we realised was that the coconut oil that you find in the grocery store didn’t quite cut it. It didn’t absorb well and it didn’t smell good. The texture could be gritty and greasy.  So we searched the globe and found the most premium coconut oil, which is super lightweight, it absorbs quickly and it smells really good. We also combine other natural ingredients to kick coconut oil up a notch.”

On the benefits of coconut oil

GG: “It has one of the highest fatty acids concentration of any oil – it’s the good fats to both hydrate and soothe the skin. We like to think of it as mother nature’s superfruit.”

It’s safe to use even for people with sensitive skin

GG: “Coconut oil is so good for sensitive skin because of those fats that I mentioned. They are anti-microbial and anti-bacterial to soothe, calm and hydrate.”
