Makeup artist Lolent Lee’s tips for when you have to get your makeup done in five minutes, or ten. (Read if “I overslept” is the story of your life.)
Six years is far from a long time in the business, but Lolent Lee probably has enough experience to last him several lifetimes. Lee, who trained in Taiwan, has done makeup for the likes of Jamie Yeo, Jade Seah, Jocie Kok, Hong Kong actress Venus Wong and Taiwanese actress Annie Chen. (He’s not the kind to name-drop, but I stalked him on Instagram.)
Typically, a makeover with Lee takes an hour. But here, the maestro’s tips for when you’re strapped for time:
If you’ve only got 5 MINUTES
1. Conceal dark circles and blemishes.
“You’ll look more youthful and less tired immediately once the dark circles are gone. Hiding blemishes is a no-brainer.”
2. Do your eyebrows
“Unless you have bangs, don’t skip this. When you first look at anyone, you’ll tend to notice their eyes and brows first. A bold brow makes you look more attractive, younger and more wide awake. Use a pencil – it’s much faster than powder, which takes precision.”
If you’ve got only 10 MINUTES
1. Conceal those dark circles and blemishes, and do up your brows with an eyebrow pencil. Duh.
2. Line your eyes and put on a coat or two of mascara.
“Always enhance your eyes before any other part of your face. Mascara and eyeliner will make them look bigger and more noticeable.”
3. Stick on lip gloss.
“This won’t take you more than half a minute and it’ll make your lips look healthier. Try YSL Beaute’s Tint in Oil, which adjusts to complement your lip shade.”
