If there’s one particular product that’s received lots of attention from the beauty hemisphere this year, it’s got to be foundations. From Fenty Beauty’s widely-hyped-about Pro Filt’r Hydrating Longwear Foundation to Kat Von D’s True Portrait Foundation and from full-coverage formulas to lightweight everyday tinted moisturiser-like finishes, the chase for good skin has been huge. And now, a new contender that’s just recently joined the hunt for flawless skin – Kanebo’s new $295 foundation – and its $180 accompanying primer.
Launched earlier this month, the Japanese brand’s The Cream Foundation and The Primer makes up a complexion system that’s the first makeup offering of its premium line – The Exceptional. Its ultra-luxe range was introduced last year with a trio of products comprising of a lotion, an emulsion and its most luxurious – a $1,800 cream.
Two things that all products from the elevated line boast of? The brand’s proprietary moisturising blend called Clear Botanical Complex – it’s made from pear juice ferment filtrate, watercress extract, aqua glucoside and geranium robertianum extract – that’s said to deliver radiant skin as well as a signature floral fragrance. Light and fresh, the yuzu sprout and flower are used as top notes. At its heart is teatopia, which is made up of a combination of white flowers. Meconopsys, a blue alpine flower, adds a feminine touch to it while musk pulls all the notes together.
Available in six shade intensities, the foundation is one that’s creamy and blends easily into the skin. When applied, its coverage leans towards sheer and buildable. So if you’re a full coverage type of girl, this may not be enough coverage for you as it conceals problem areas while only lightly covering areas that require less attention or care. Though that’s exactly what we appreciate about this foundation – it’s got a chockful of skincare properties and is light enough to give the skin a breather with a your-skin-but-better finish.
And when it comes to the primer, it dispenses as a smooth, satin-like essence that fuses hydration with makeup prepping. It’s said to have a smart technology called the Change Form Gel Formula that allows its gel texture to freely change shape and create a smooth and even skin by covering irregularities in texture.
