The New Romantic Scent

romantic fragrance

The inspiration behind the Miss Dior EDP ($167) – a reformulation of the first fragrance by Monsieur Dior from 1947 – sounds more like the plot of a B-grade rom-com: to create the smell of love. With hints of honeyed Grasse rose, wild rose and Turkish Damascus rose, then peppered with the citrusy scent of blood orange, mandarin orange and Calabrian bergamot, it’s – however – exactly what modern girlie girls want in a relationship: something fresh, sweet, yet not at all cheesy or overly intense.

romantic fragranceJustin Timberlake singing about “bringing sexy back” might be 11 years old (yep, it’s not cool anymore – really), but there’s no better way to describe Bulgari’s Goldea The Roman Night EDP ($151). Opening with notes of mulberry and black peony, the warm, luscious scent mellows into a heart of night-blooming jasmine and tuberose, before reaching its deep, black musk base. The result: an oddly modern and enticing cross between an ultra-feminine perfume and a cologne. Even the packaging is unabashedly come-hither: a rounded black glass flacon accented by the scale motif from the brand’s Serpenti jewellery collection.
