We chat with designer Eelyn Tang on her latest Lover collection, which showcases timeless and simple gowns with fresh twists.
Love, Yu started out as an evening gown label
“I started the business with my cocktail and evening gown label, Yu,” says Eelyn. “Along the way, I started receiving requests for simple bridal gowns from friends and clients, and this ultimately evolved into Love, Yu, which is our bridal gown line.”
What can brides expect from the new collection?
“Love, Yu is all about simple and timeless gowns for the modern bride, and with the new collection, we continue to showcase more of these styles. There are of course, new twists in the Lover collection, such as a long silk chiffon cape gown, and a full French Chantilly lace kimono-inspired bridal gown.”
She keeps up with trends
“Our gowns are usually a mix of lace and tulle, and these are the most popular wedding designs for local brides right now.”
Her favourite details?
I’m a fan of lace, so I love gowns with interesting lace details as well as different lace designs and types.”
She works closely with brides to achieve their dream dress
“I typically meet brides who are keen on getting a bespoke gown at least four months ahead of their wedding. I get them to share with me pictures and their idea of the perfect wedding gown. Together, we work out the desired design. This usually happens within two sessions. For the next six weeks before the wedding, we’ll generally have about three fittings.”
Eelyn’s advice for brides looking for the ideal gown
“Sometimes, the gown you fall in love with may be completely different from what you pictured initially. I would recommend trying on different silhouettes before deciding on the perfect gown.”
The Lover collection by Love, Yu will be available in July 2015 at The Prelude Bridal, 8 Mohamed Sultan Road, tel: 6221-4982.
