If you haven’t noticed, there’s a hot new social media trend: Cinemagraphs. Created and coined in 2011 by U.S photographers Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck, this involves combining a still photo with subtle motion to create fascinating visuals through a series of photographs or using a video recording. And it’s taking off in the wedding scene. But you can do it yourself too with the help of some handy apps. Plus, check out our list of other fun apps to create memorable and amusing animations of your wedding moments:

Flixel

One of the most popular cinemagraph apps, this allows you to do a video recording of your subject and either save it as a full motion film or tap on and highlight the area you want to animate. We love how this works for pre-wedding shots, like having rolling waves behind you or falling rain as you and your other half share an intimate moment. Available on iTunes.

Fotodanz
Flixel is only available on on the Apple app store, so if you’re an Android user, you can check out Fotodanz to create your own cinemagraphs. Like Flixel, you create the cinemagraph via video recording and you can select different photo filters for various effects.

Phhhto

Get your guests to take fun GIFs (Graphics Interchange Format) of moments at your wedding with Phhhoto, then upload it on Instagram with your hashtag. You’ll have a fun time looking through and reminiscing over the them after your celebrations. Available on iTunes.

This had us in giggles! Turning your selfies into interactive 3D avatars, you can customise the model or avatar by choosing the outfits, hairstyles and hair colour. Send this to your friends as a hilarious e-invite before mailing the formal invitation! The only catch is that the app is in Mandarin, unless you can read in Mandarin, you’ll need a guide to using it which can be found online. Available on the Google Playstore and iTunes.

Meitu GIF
This is another app that creates GIFs from a selection of photos. You can set it in reverse, turn up the speed, add cute illustrations and fonts to your animations, and also manipulate them to look like cinemagraphs. Available on iTunes and the Google Playstore.
