A lack of stylish designs led Vera Wang to designing her own gown and subsequently opening her first boutique carrying couture gowns from international designers. Today, Vera Wang Bride boutiques all over the world carry her personal collections. Following the opening of the latest store at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, we had the opportunity to ask the visionary to share her thoughts and inspirations.
Your gowns have a decidedly feminine and romantic yet fashion-forward feel to them. How do you combine so many elements while still having a single cohesive vision?
Bridal gowns give me the opportunity to create with a scale, construction, drama and sense of celebration only weddings provide. I am first a designer who designs bridal gowns. However, the edginess and attitude I bring to my ready-to-wear collection tends to affect my wedding work. Sometimes, too, the details and freedom of my wedding designs influence the ready-to-wear collections. So, I have to say that both are open to cross-pollination.
How would you describe the Vera Wang Bride?
She is definitely fashion-forward, stylistically curious, confident, and most of all, her own woman.
