Shopping for one-of-a-kind, statement furniture for the home or office? Singapore-based Carsten Lima, head honcho of luxury collective Design Hotels in Asia Pacific, shares why these three stylish furniture stores are his favourites:
Grafunkt
“Homegrown furniture brand Grafunkt (#02-34/35/36 Millennia Walk) delivers contemporary designs that combine creativity, functionality and quality. It features some of Europe’s best designer and lifestyle brands across their furniture, accessories and lighting such as &Tradition, Menu, Sits, Santa & Cole and Mad & Len. There is also design director Nathan Yong’s own brands studiografunkt and Folks, so you can be assured of a wide variety of products here.”
Gubi Design
“I am a huge fan of Danish furniture store Gubi Design for their inspiring eclectic mix of new and old, in the form of their own designs, or re-launched ones that have been given courageous new looks. The furniture is original, authentic and thought-provoking. A visit to their premises in Copenhagen gives me the feeling of being invited into the house of an innovative and creative team whose work is based on travel, observation and good taste. Each piece in the showroom has its own story to tell and is current, yet enduring.”
Piet Hein Eek
“Once you get to Piet Hein Eek in Eindhoven, Netherlands, you don’t want to leave again. The curators in the shop must have the best job in the world: They not only showcase products in an engaging way, but also gather an incredible mix of limited edition works and unique, one-off pieces. Plus, it’s also home to an art gallery, an events space and a restaurant.”
