Little Island Brewing Co.

What: At 10,000 sq ft, it’s a microbrewery of macro proportions. The industrial chic space – designed by Kita+Jaramillo, the architecture firm behind Esquina and Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chop House – is a draw for those into slow living and artisanal foods. Located in Changi Village, it houses 10 old-school tanks brewing blends from three-month-old whisky ale to mead beer and dry apple cider, all concocted by award-winning British brewmaster Stephen Spinney.

The kitchen, meanwhile, is run by New Zealand chef John Edwards and focuses on slow cooking and top-notch cuts sourced from Wales to Australia. The beer belly porchetta – marinated in coffee, chilli and cumin with bourbon butterscotch apple sauce – is a standout, as is the banoffee pie and homemade, preservative-free cola.

Why: That the beers are awesome is a given, but even if you aren’t a lager lover, this still makes a perfect weekend spot that feels like a holiday on home soil. For one, you get front-row views of the sea minus the East Coast crowds. None of the preening beach bunnies that throng Sentosa either. What you do get: a stylish yet unpretentious joint to kick back in – a true luxury.
