Francisco Costa, the creative director of Calvin Klein Collection womenswear, shares what he’s into now.
His Favourite Bookstore “Left Bank Books in the West Village in New York. I frequently visit to purchase new books for inspiration – it’s got a great selection of first editions.”
Andy Warhol’s book with unpublished pictures
On His Reading List “Bob Colacello’s Andy Warhol: Unexposed Exposures (2010), which is a compilation of black and white photo prints that Warhol originally selected for his 1979 book Exposures, but were later removed by his publishers. Colacello, who was also the executive editor of the original book, has such an insider’s view on America in the ’70s, making this such a fun read.”
A Cecily Brown abstract painting
Latest Investment “A painting by Cecily Brown, whose work I’ve always loved for its colour and textures. The particular painting I bought is a jewel because I think it truly encapsulates her work as a whole, so when I had the opportunity to buy it, I jumped on it.”
A Recent Art Buy “I was eyeing Sour Twist, a painting by American artist Ed Ruscha that I saw at the Gagosian Gallery (in New York), but it was sold when I was ready to purchase it. I (wound up) buying Kim Gordon’s Mulholland Series (Silver Wreath), which is such a great piece. Plus, Kim is so cool and eclectic that I had to have it.”
Seven floors of edgy shopping
Favourite New Shopping Spot “Dover Street Market in New York – it has such a cool and fun vibe and has really enhanced the city’s landscape since opening last year.”
Favourite Restaurant “Le Cicale in Santa Margherita Ligure, a village located in the hills outside Portofino, Italy. The setting is beautiful and everything is delicious.”
Angkor Wat offers serenity and peace
Most Inspiring Recent Travel Destination “Cambodia – the trip was the perfect balance of sightseeing and relaxation. The people were very kind and the local cuisine delicious. I found the place quite spiritual and peaceful.”
Most Frequented Websites “I enjoy browsing on www.1stdibs.com, which has incredible antique finds. YouTube is another go-to site for me. It has made all of our lives much easier because you can find anything on it.”
An Indulgence He Would Never Forgo “Books – I have thousands of them in my office and at home.”
