On Friday, September 16, Kult Gallery will turn into a records store ’80s-themed artworks by over 20 artists – think remixed album art, deconstructed vinyls and loads of Bowie. The list of participating artists is mighty impressive: they include Singapore designer fFurious (director of the eponymous multidisciplinary studio), Russian artist Andrew Flakonkishochki (beloved for his neon, surrealist illustrations on pop culture) and Australian design collective Babekuhl (they’re known for their funky takes on street culture).

The ’80s-reinterpretation artworks from the participating artists will be available for sale throughout the six-week-long affair, along with shellac/vinyl records and vintage record players from notable collectors Roz Vinyls and The Retro Factory. But if that hasn’t already left your ’80s-loving soul drooling, Vinylicious Records are also hawking rare autographed vinyl records from the likes of the Depeche Mode, Wham! and Pet Shop Boys.

The gallery will also be repainted yellow and red in a dedicated homage to iconic music retailer Tower Records, and video art will be screened on glitchy TV screens that give off that soft fuzzy glow so reminiscent of the decade’s music videos.

Enjoy hour-long sets by local bands such as The Baits, Bennett Bay and Yllis while you’re there too. They’ll be covering classics and reinterpreting current pop hits with a ’80s slant. Tay Tay meets… Bowie? We kid, but it’s definitely something to look forward to.
