It may only be Loewe’s fifth showing at Milan Design Week — one of the most important trade fairs in the design scene, taking place April 8 – 14 — but the Spanish house has quickly become known for an artisanal slant under JW Anderson’s charge.
While Loewe focused on textiles last year, 2019 sees them turning the spotlight on basketry, hand quilting and calligraphy. They’ve enlisted a trope of 10 international artisans to interpret the theme, and the result is a series of objet d’arts such as vessels, delicately woven straw bags, containers, lighting and even whimsical pebbles wrapped in leather. If that’s your thing, they’ll be available for purchase — should you happen to be attending the fair.
There’s also a selection of leather goods and accessories that feature the same or similar artisanal techniques used in the crafting of the objet d’arts. They’re set to hit Loewe stores sometime in June/July, so look out for them.
