Black Mirror Season 5
What it’s about: If you aren’t already familiar, Black Mirror is a critically acclaimed sci-fi series that typically presents scenarios in the near future where our reliance on technology has run amok. Several of Black Mirror’s plotlines have actually come true in reality, including an episode where an ill-qualified political candidate resorts to offending people in a bid to get elected – sounds familiar in today’s Trumpian landscape, no?
Who’s in it: A surprisingly superhero-ish cast; faces include Pom Klementieff (Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy), Anthony Mackie (Falcon from Avengers: Endgame) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Mantis from Aquaman) as well as one Miley Cyrus.

I Am Mother
What it’s about: A baby is born in a futuristic underground facility and raised by a doting android mother figure, with no other human input apparently, as all of humanity has supposedly been wiped out after an extinction event. Fast forward and she’s in her teens when an injured human stranger shows up at the facility, asking for help and said teenager realises that her whole world might be well, a constructed lie by mummy robot.
Who’s in it: Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) and Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids)
Why watch it: Hilary Swank in a Netflix original that premiered at Sundance and promises a plot that comes across as 10 Cloverfield Lane meets I, Robot? Yeah we’re definitely down for it.

Murder Mystery
What it’s about: New York cop (Sandler) and his wife (Aniston) are normal, everyday folks who are on their way to Europe for a holiday when a positive encounter aboard their flight gets them invited to the fancy yacht of elderly billionaire Malcolm Quince. When the latter ends up dead on the yacht, the couple suddenly becomes the prime suspects.
Who’s in it: Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston – the latter makes her Netflix debut with Murder Mystery.
Why watch it: If you need a light-hearted comedy after watching one too many sci-fi works, Murder Mystery should be the ticket.
