Come tomorrow, there’ll be a slew of countdown parties all over the island. But if squeezing with massive crowds isn’t your idea of fun, these chilled-out events make great alternatives.

No fancy dress codes. No bottle service. All that’s required: Your “party like it’s 1999” spirit. Held at hip rooftop bar Lepark, DJs will spin ’90s tracks – boyband songs, mambo ditties and soulful ballads – all night long. And you won’t have to go hungry here because the bar will be serving items off its dinner menu. Level 6 People’s Park Complex, 8pm-12am, free admission

Hip-hop, reggae and funk enthusiasts – there’s nowhere else to usher in 2017 than at this open-air event held at Mexican joint Piedra Negra. Organised by local entertainment outfit Rewind RnB, enjoy everything from hip-hop to reggae and funk as you knock back margaritas and beers. The first 50 folks to show up even get a free shot. 241 Beach Road, 7pm-1am, free admission

As the name suggests, this party is all about you – your kind of music, that is. Three DJs will be playing three distinct sounds – pop and rock, hip-hop and Afrobeats, and rock and indie – on New Year’s Eve at Kult Kafe. Here, every party-goer will don a pair of headphones and listen to the music of his or her choice, while the dance floor will be turned into an immersive and interactive light installation for the night. Emily Hill (11 Upper Wilkie Road), 8pm-1am, $45

Like this? These are the coolest bars in Singapore to head to, see what Alexander Wang-designed headphones look like and check out the seriously Instagrammable installations at the National Gallery
