Who’s that girl: Los Angeles-raised Maricelle Wong, 26, who’s gone from engineer to fragrance designer for a major company to chanteuse, quitting her day job of making scents to focus on her singing career.

Know her ’cos: She could just be our answer to Ellie Goulding with a mix of “pop, contemporary R&B and UK pop-rock electronica” that’s bound to get you singing along. And like Goulding, who’s one of her idols, she’s a crowd favourite with her singles Love Drunk, Lucky Ones and Quick Fix on heavy rotation on local radio at press time.

What’s next for 2017: The year’s off to a good start with the launch of her debut EP Pursuits on iTunes and Spotify, and a performance as part of The Esplanade’s All Things New series on Jan 22.
