Swarovski, famed for crystals and sparking accessories, now shine the light on a nomadic community in the Riau Archipelago, the Orang Suku Laut, or People of the Sea. Working with the Island Foundation, the company donated crystal to the tribe’s women from which they crafted jewellery – a skill passed down through generations. To help sustain this craft, Swarovski commissioned the Crystal Net, a fishing net woven using tradition weaving techniques and over 14,000 crystals (18 months? Nothing to it).
