The creation of a feminine timepiece usually falls into an equation. Bring out the florals. Then pile on the diamonds. Finally, finish off with saccharine sweet colourways or macaron pastel hues.

Now scratch that.

For Swiss watch house Tissot, the approach to crafting a ladylike timepiece is a decidedly simple and modern affair. Case in point: Its new Tissot T-Wave series which undergoes a facelift this season. Inspired by the soft movement of ribbons, the designers stuck to subtle design elements for the outing.

If the older generation T-Wave was set in a square case and a dainty 28.2 mm round case, the collection now comes in a round case with more seamless and smooth lines on the case and lugs to mimic the fluid motion of ribbons. Even the size of the new case – 30mm – is just right. It’s neither too small nor bulky and sits on the wearer’s wrist nicely.

But the update does not just end there. The dial, rendered in either brushed stainless steel or mother-of-pearl, boasts a stylish aesthetic that is big on the design cachet. There are two different takes here. On one hand, there are the dials with wave-like motifs. On the other: Pared-down sun-brushed dials that call to mind the aesthetic of minimalist fashion designers.

Whatever style you choose, they all come sans any indexes or date counters for an uncluttered look. The hour and minute hands, meanwhile, is a nod to ribbons and sport a petal-like design.

Available in eight different permutations (choose from a leather strap, stainless steel or rose gold PVD-coated steel bracelet), each of these quartz-powered tickers are the kind of feminine pieces that’d go with almost anything in your wardrobe and what you’d wear on repeat.
