The biggest news in fashion this week: Balmain’s collaboration with H&M. Ahead of the launch in November, we got four local fashion stars to share what they love about the French luxury label, and their all-time favourite looks.
SUSANNA KANG
“Balmain is all about attitude and that’s what my fashion sense is all about. I collect the pieces for their workmanship and their incredibly sculptured shapes. (On the left) I am wearing a military jacket to pay tribute to American pop singer Michael Jackson, and it’s still my favourite piece from the Spring ’09 collection. (On the right) I am wearing a jacket adorned with chains, studs and crystals. I find the construction of this piece almost like modern architecture.”
KAREN NG
“To me, Balmain is all about (what I call) divine glamour. Their designs are dramatic, unconventional and cutting-edge. When I wear their pieces, there’s an instant “wow” factor in my outfits and they are very attention-grabbing. (On the left) I like how the dress has diamante details done in an edgy manner, and also how it exudes sexiness with its bare back. (On the right) The top in my casual chic look is from Balmain. It’s one of the statement prints this season and the colour is striking.”
PHOEBE LEONG
“What’s not to love? Balmain is unapologetically fun, fresh, sexy and modern. I love dressing down a show-stopping piece with distressed denim or a pair of shorts for day, and pair it with something more glamorous for night. I like to balance masculine and feminine appeal in my outfits. (On the left) I wore a Balmain dress that looks runway-worthy. (On the right) I paired a feminine sheer lace top with trousers.”
GEORGIA LEE
“Balmain is a well-loved brand because it stays true to the house’s ability to understand a woman’s silhouette. Their pieces make me feel both feminine and dangerous at the same time, and their famous embroidery techniques add to the luxurious feel of pieces I wear.”
