You don’t have to buy the runway collection by Calvin Klein – or technically Calvin Klein 205W39NYC – in order to have artworks of Andy Warhol plastered on your threads. The company has unveiled a new limited edition capsule collection for the Calvin Klein Jeans line ($119-$399) featuring prints from the artist’s Self-Portrait (1986) series.
Launching in the brand’s Ion Orchard and Paragon stores today, the images were Warhol’s answer to selfies and were taken just before his death. To art buffs, this series of silkscreen prints have been deemed as an “anxious meditation of an aging artist”. To us, though, there are just great Pop Art iconography by the man who popularised the notion of celebrity pop culture.
This is the latest product of the ongoing two-year partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Expect these Warhol silkscreen prints to appear on a range of wardrobe basics like heritage-inflected denim, T-shirts, hoodies, bum bags and classic canvas high-top sneakers.
