Since its debut in 1955, the 2.55 remains one of Chanel’s most coveted bag styles for its ladylike, feminine aesthetic. But for Spring ’17, the brand has introduced a new player that might just give it a run for its money: the Gabrielle.
With a distinctly vintage-y charm, the Gabrielle is an interpretation of the strength and elegance that Coco Chanel embodied. Its base is fitted, but its body is intentionally kept light and supple (the reason behind it, says the brand, is so that it will “hug the silhouette” while moving, instead of hindering it). It’s also one versatile accessory: Carry it over the shoulder, or adjust the strap – a double chain made of leather and gold and silver metal – to turn it into a crossbody.
Another reason why this is going to be the biggest bag launch for the brand this season? Karl Lagerfeld is bringing four A-listers together for its ad campaign, to be released April 3. Three are Chanel ambassadors – Kristen Stewart, Caroline de Maigret and Pharrell (reportedly the first time a man has starred in a handbag campaign for the brand) – while the other is friend of the house Cara Delevingne, all of whom were handpicked by the Kaiser himself.
