Chanel has officially kicked off Resort 2018 season with an ancient Greece-themed show held in – of all places, Paris. We take a look at what went down and our favourite pieces of the show.
Yes, they’re often quite polarising but with both Karl Lagerfeld and Rihanna giving their stamps of approval, chances are you’ll be changing your mind pretty soon, if you’re not a fan of the look.
Fun fact: Almost all the looks were paired with variations of these gladiator sandals. Yes, it looks like Lagerfeld is obsessed with them.
Most of the outfits were immensely wearable and looked perfect for our all-summer-all-year-round weather. The styling was not overtly cluttered (as Chanel shows tend to be, at times) and gave us major holiday envy. How much do we love it? Fashion and beauty editor Imran Jalal and Moh Shuying were both squealing over the collection when the images came out.
As for myself, I can already picture the likes of Chanel favourites such as Keira Knightley or Emma Stone in the outfits already.
The one accessory you need to complete that earth mother look? It’s definitely the headband – be it embroidered, bejewelled or decked out in florals, make it ornate. Hey, even Beyonce‘s got a thing for them lately.
Chanel certainly spares no effort in staging their shows – last year’s Resort show saw them taking the press and customers all the way to Cuba. So why not head to Greece itself this time? According to Vogue, it was an effort by the house to help with Paris’ declining tourist numbers (owing no doubt, to the tumultuous events in the French capital in recent years)
This little circular lacquered number with an owl motif – why an owl, you ask? In ancient Greece, the owl was the symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom. We won’t say no to that.
