In recent years, Charles & Keith has launched itself into the international stratosphere by collaborating with designers like Cecilie Bahnsen and Shushu/Tong. Now, the Singapore footwear brand continues its global reach with Spanish-born artist Coco Capitan which will hit shelves in July 13.
The two-piece capsule collection fuses Capitan’s poetic-style artwork with Charles & Keith’s clean, structured designs. “My art is inspired by overheard conversations, diary entries, and sudden waves of introspection. I believe that words can transcend cultures and give us a glimmer of hope for brighter times,” said the 26-year-old.
Coco Capitan’s artistry takes over the Charles & Keith Perline Penny Loafers.
Inspired by the childlike game ‘He loves me, he loves me not’, the collection sees pale blue daisies stitched onto Charles & Keith’s black Perline Penny Loafers ($139) for a touch of playfulness. Accompanying the delicate hand-drawn flowers is Capitan’s signature handwritten script, etched with the words, “Loves Me Blue, Love Me Blue Not.”
Charles & Keith’s Double Handle Sculptural Tote Bag tells a story of a blue flower blooming through concrete.
The artistic story continues with the Charles & Keith Double Handle Sculptural Tote Bag ($109). Using its black bodice as a canvas, the same blue flower appears singularly on one side, alongside a pondering prose, once again stitched in Capitan’s handscript. On the other, blue daisies extend throughout the body, purposely uneven to create a sense of charm.
Doodle-style daisy design is Capitan’s personal touch to the collection.
“Our team worked closely with Capitan to create this capsule collection that reflects her cool-girl attitude,” said Fredie Stevens, design director of Charles & Keith. “These pieces, paired with her poignant prose, are perfect collector’s items for art lovers and the fashion forward crowd.”
