Awards season has kicked off in Hollywood with the Critics’ Choice Awards 2017, which took place last Sunday. If you’re the type who loves to judge the red carpet, you’re in for a treat as the next few months (till next February, when the 89th Oscars will take place) will be filled with a slew of major film awards shows.

Here, we pick out the best celebrity looks on the red carpet at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2017:

#1: Emma Stone

The La La Land actress, who is a hot favourite for the Best Actress race (though she lost out to Jackie‘s Natalie Portman here), ditched her usual quirky-feminine look and went straight out for a sleek Roland Mouret halter gown.

While this isn’t her most memorable look (think her chartreuse Elie Saab at 2015’s Oscars, or her lemon yellow Atelier Versace at the 2014 world premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2), it’s still enough to qualify Stone as one of the best-dressed – though we usually expect something a little more offbeat from her.

#2: Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood rode on the current popularity of Westworld to a Best Actress win (in Drama) – and she was also a winner in the sartorial stakes as well, with her chic belted Altuzarra pantsuit.

Though Wood is known for her love of all things mannish, this was a fine moment for her and reinforces the pantsuit trend, which is so hot right now.

#3: Viola Davis

Providing a refreshing splash of colour was Fences‘ Viola Davis, who took to the red carpet in a simple Michael Kors gown that made its mark with its light aqua blue hue, an exact match for Island Paradise – one of Pantone’s top 10 colours for the Spring 2017 season.

#4: Michelle Monaghan

The criminally underrated Michelle Monaghan has been seriously style-savvy for quite some time now but here, she really proves her chops in this unusual Monique Lhuillier ensemble that caught the eye with its lace blazer, oversized bow and sheer pants. Technically, it does have a lot going on, but we think Monaghan manages to ace it.

#5: Allison Williams

Girls
actress Allison Williams is usually an Oscar de la Renta girl – poised and elegant but not particularly risk-taking, which is why we were (pleasantly) surprised when she turned up in this graphic Balmain number. To give her points, she went the whole ’80s route with a bouffant and statement earrings. It might not be to everyone’s cup of tea, but kudos to her (and her stylist) for trying something different.
