With so many bags dropping in stores every season, sometimes all we need is that one bag from our favourite brands. The good news? We’ve curated a list of the key bags — new or updated — that you should know by heart so you can shop like an insider.
This new bag collection takes its name from the French word for “label”. The distinguishing feature of the top handle and clutch designs in this range is the blue Prada label, usually found on garments and shoes — an elegant take to the brand’s usual triangular logo hardware.
To celebrate the brand’s 100th anniversary, it’s relaunching archive couture dresses this season. The exact fabrics used on those frocks will land on some designs of the jumbo-sized Bazar totes to take matchy-matchy dressing to a new level.
The brand updated its new knot clasp for Spring/Summer ’17. For Fall/Winter ’17, that twist lock mechanism gets adopted for a new clutch design which features a detachable shoulder strap and two compartments separated by a flat zipped pocket to keep everything neatly organised.
What else do you call a tote that’s huge and roomy? This new design boasts a new high-end calfskin for the brand. Called “soft bare”, the hide is uncovered and unpainted calfskin that is used by a handful of luxury maisons. The result is a slouchy and lightweight bag that will leave a beautiful patina over time.
The mood for oversized bags continues at Gucci, where its creative director Alessandro Michele upsized the typical medium-sized top-handle into what could qualify as a briefcase or luggage. The embellishments, meanwhile, are made up of bugs and insects, which call to mind taxidermy.
Inspired by antique luggage and treasure chests, the finishes of the Box Bags this season pays homage to the spiritual practices and traditions of Cornwall. Among the designs are those with fringing — a nod to the sacred Cloutie tree which is often decorated by ribbons to represent the wishes and hopes of pilgrims who tie them.
The boxy sunshine yellow flap bag pays homage to ’80s German pop culture and the geometric abstract forms of German-American artist Lyonel Feininger.
This new bag collection of boxy totes is almost Bauhaus-like in its architectural shape and finish. The bags also feature a detachable strap that comes with a modern Fendi “F” logo.
The update given to the brand‘s popular range of flap bags this season? A Cubist-like patchwork motif in pony hair in a dynamic colour combination. The snake head closure comes with white- and black-enamelled scales and onyx eyes.
The brand interprets eccentricity and eclecticism for F/W ’17 with a riotous series of bags. Among them is the structured Soiree shoulder bag with its chains and all-over metal studs.
The brand gives the ubiquitous vintage-inspired shoulder bag an off-kilter mustard and navy colour-blocking treatment.
The statement piece from Chanel’s Ground Control collection this season fulfills our sci-fi fantasies with its kitschy cool design that looks like a rocket flying through outer space.
Stella McCartney’s velvet rendition of its signature Falabella bag comes in the hottest colour now: millennial pink.
This minimalist khaki tote comes with a leather-wrapped hardware for a tasteful finish.
For its latest bag launch, the brand turned its Snapshot camera bag literally on its side. The result an elongated camera bag that’s named Hotshot.
The rainbow stripes of the bag rely on the inlaying technique of marquetry that’s often used in Oriental screens and watch dials.
